Where did you grow up?
I am a proud Oregonian, born in Portland and raised in Lake Oswego. I often think of living somewhere else for a while, but why leave such a great place! As long as I can travel and explore, I’m happy to call Portland my home.
Where did you attend school and what did you study?
I went to Colorado State University in Fort Collins, and received my degree in Business Marketing. It was such a wonderful four years, and I took full advantage of the college experience. I visit Colorado at least once a year to visit college friends and am lucky to still have such strong ties there!
How did you get into marketing?
I think what attracts me most to marketing is the fact that I’m NOT the most creative person, but I enjoy surrounding myself with creative people. After college, I learned the “real world ropes” as a marketer in the professional services arena at an engineering firm. Now, I’m on the agency side, marketing and consulting for small businesses.
How did you become involved in AMA?
I was pulled into the AMA four years ago, when my friend and mentor Cris Schultz took the reins as President. She needed a Secretary, and asked me to fill the role. I’ve been volunteering on the Board ever since, and am excited to be following in her footsteps as President!
Why are you passionate about marketing?
Marketing is integral to all aspects of a business. When most people think of marketing, they think of websites, logos, design. What I love about marketing is how it integrates with people, how a business is structured, how you connect with others. Marketing is so much more than a brand mark—it’s how you can move a business forward.
Where do you currently work?
I work at Kinesis, a marketing agency that works with companies on all aspects of their business, from branding to hiring to digging up leads. We see marketing as a lever that when pulled, can help a business grow.
What are your personal hobbies?
I’m a pretty typical Portlander! I love running, good beer, great food, and enjoying time with friends and family. I love travelling as well and always make the most of vacation days!
Any fun facts?
I have no tattoos, although have thought about getting a tattoo many many times—from a Czech flag (studied in Prague) to 26.2 (symbolic of running a marathon) to a music note. Because I’m so wishy-washy, and I hate needles, I don’t think it will ever happen! And I’m okay with that.
What is the future of AMA, as you see it?
This year, AMA has experienced such a transformation! A new name, a new brand, a new website that truly reflects our growing organization. AMA PDX is the marketing resource for Portland professionals, creating a unique group that connects, is fun, and informative. I have yet to meet an AMA-er who hasn’t benefitted from being a part of the organization. I can’t wait to have more people come to check us out and see what they’re missing!
